I would rather not turn any users away as stated in the article (who knows where they got that number from). Does anyone have any alternative monetization methods for their site. Having to pay a subscription for access seems like the best approach. I’m somewhat newish to web dev and been doing research on this topic. Just like some opinions.

I guess it’s not about web dev but about business, about marketing.
Yeah, you can sell subscriptions and let people see your content only if they have an active subscription.
Or you can sell your content individually: in this case, your visitors will have to buy access to each post they want to see.
You can also accept donations, make money from referral links, and so on.
There are dozens of different ways to monetize your content.
