Looking at tools for image organization because WP’s native year/month scheme isn’t up to scratch.
Of various plugins available, **HappyFiles** seems to be best in breed.
Am I mistaken? I’m wide open to learn your experiences and thoughts regarding alternatives before opening my wallet because I don’t want to revisit this decision any time soon.
Last question . . . does WP make a habit of sherlocking plugins with new releases?

Curious as well. Happy Files looks good but migrating image folder plugins can be a huge pain.
FileBird, even the free version, has worked well for me for years. Unlimited folders and subfolders. Right-click aware. Import/export of folder structure. Available in the WordPress repository.
HappyFiles is great, and stupidly cheap for a use anywhere as much as you want plugin. It’s easy to make folders, drag-n-drop stuff around, and you can turn any folder into a slideshow with their block, or a shortcode. This has allowed me to give clients incredibly easy ways to change images on their pages and in sliders.
It’s from the same team that makes Bricks – they seem like good people. I’ve used filebird and personally prefer the HF interface and flow.
Happy files if you have any number of images. Also you can organize your pages, posts, and plugins.
