So I posted not long ago on here, saying I would like to create a business similar to Bark offering services but to my knowledge I now understand that I definitely do not have £100K+ to be able to make a website similar to theirs.
Just to confirm, I do NOT want to copy Bark’s site, there are certain things I don’t like with it but it’s a similar idea with how they offer services but my services that I want to offer are different.
I feel a bit deflated and not sure where to even start with this idea. I feel like I have an idea but don’t even know the right steps on how to make it work without having a lot of money to make a website which I don’t.
I feel like I am missing the point completely and frustrated because I don’t know how to get started.
What is a simple avenue in which I could take to this? If it was to became successful I could add more features to the website but until then I won’t be able to. What website builder would I use that wouldn’t completely break the bank and any idea on the steps I should actually take?
It seems like starting is the most hardest part, especially when you don’t know the correct steps on how to start.

What is your unique value proposition? Bark/Home Advisor/Angi/Thumbtack are huge companies that connect people to contractors. What are you bringing to the table that they aren’t?
Building a brand (which is what you’re trying to do) is an enormously long and slow process. You don’t necessarily need a bunch of money, but you do need a very clear position in the market to differentiate yourself. And you need to be prepared to fail 100 times before you succeed.
In terms of specifically building a website, do you have coding skills? If not, that’s where it’s going to get expensive because you’ll have to hire a developer to build both your theme and infrastructure. You won’t be able to get something like this started with some kind of pre-built platform.
WordPress is a great platform for what you want to do, but it will take a lot of time and effort to get things rolling, and even then, you’ll have to work really hard to carve out a place for yourself in a crowded market.
I’m not trying to be discouraging, just realistic.
Have you thought about starting a local version of this first? Perhaps enlisting a few local businesses to be your first 10 contractors, and then advertising within your region to help connect people to them? That could be a solid first step that you could build on as you move forward.
