Creating local backup of WordPress site for testing

[ad_1]

I thought this would be easy but guess not.

I exported my websites database (45 tables) using the quick export sql option from php my admin.

Then downloaded xampp and got the sever l running locally. When I went to import the database initially via php myadmin it would timeout so I learned online to increase this by editing php.ini file.

However I’m very stuck as whenever I upload the database although it does upload I’m only getting around 13 tables no wp-content etc any ideas what might be up?

Any help appreciate 🙏

  1. I move wordpress sites a lot and use the All-In-One-WP-Migration plugin.

Not sure about XAMP but if you want to give it a try, then create a new, simple site on XAMP and make sure that everything works. Next, install the all in one wp migratoin plugin both, on your local site as well as on your live site.
On your live site, export the whole site (use a password!!!) and then, on your local server, use the same plugin in import the file you exported. This should take about five minutes or less.

IF you get an error that the limits need to be increased, then change the /etc/php/8.2/apache2/php.ini (or where ever your php.ini file is located)
`post_max_size` and `upload_max_size` to a value that is bigger than your downloaded file.

Give it a try and let us know how you’re doing. All in all, should be 15 minutes.
If you make it work, please remember that you must use your login credentials from your live site and NOT the one you created during the local install. The plugin will overwrite the existing local site with your actual website.

P.S. Maybe somebody with XAMP experience can chip in here. I use Proxmox and that is how I do it.
