Do I need a programming language to use WP?

Hi there!

So, I am learning WordPress for freelancing but I don’t want to become a fullstack frontend dev, I just want to know enough to take some freelance jobs. Let’s suppose a client ask me to add a functionality to his/her site for which there is no plugin available or it’s something so simple that it’s more efficient to craft the plugin. To solve this, PHP would be enough or I would have to know JS anyway?

Also, I plan to focus more on the backend market. I’m already familiar to Python. Is it more productive to use a Python framework like flask or should I learn PHP? Nonetheless, could I create a PHP plugin in Python?
