Do Image Blocks have a max size set on them?

Doing some AB testing (I am a wp newbie, do not be fooled!) and noticed that my image in a column isn’t full-width but when changed to a cover block it is. When changing screen size down, it does respond and stick at full-width.

I can’t find a max width setting in Styles, so is this a general Wp thing?
I can use the Cover Block, but I’m more curious as to what’s going on.
