Hi, I built a WordPress website for a client and I’m constantly getting spam emails from marketing companies that they’re trying to send to my client.
I’ve talked to some of these people and they’re using scraping and cold emailing software to send out the emails.
But my email address has never been anywhere public on this website. The only two places it ever was were the site admin email address when I was first building the site (this was changed to my client’s email address about a year ago) and the email address on my admin user account.
I’ve searched the site for my email address and it doesn’t show up anywhere.
I’ve carefully gone over all the text on all the pages of the site and it doesn’t show up anywhere.
I’ve gone through everything in the backend and it’s nowhere in there, not on any contact forms or anything.
The only place I can find is my user account.
Are they somehow scrapping it from there? I would have assumed that was completely private.
Is there anywhere else anyone can think of that might possibly have my email address still on it from when I originally built the site that I’m missing?
Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.

Are they emails or are they coming from one of the contact forms? Emails can be harvested from many places…
Did you register your own domain?
There is a site called whois.com that lists domain owners’ details and a lot of these spammers scrape these details.
