Hello, I’m a wordpress beginner, and also a beginner in reddit. (so if there are some rules I’m breaking, please tell me…)
I’m Korean but since I couldn’t find any decent community to ask this, I came here. Hello
I work at a small hakwon(English academy), and the boss knew I’m learning development for fun. She asked me to make a homepage for this hakwon.
I’ve learned Java, Javascript, Python … for about a year. But I’ve never done any big projects.
About 4 pages with information and images, and possibly a page for academy students to show their report card and photos individually.
She said she wants it simple, but I think she wants a good design to some extent – she said some designs are too ugly.
I know that the expenses for hosting, etc.. might be about 200-300 dollars, and the boss said the other company does this for 700 dollars – including all the expenses. and they additionally cost 5 dollars per month after the site is made. And she said it’s too expensive….
Should I take this job or not? I’m sure I’ll be up all night a lot learning for this and working on this, yet I won’t be paid as much as I worked. (I haven’t told her how much I want to receive)
But since my ordinary job is kinda boring and developing is exciting for me, I think it can be a nice distraction….
So my question is,
1. Should I take this job?
2. If I do, how much should I get paid for this? (without the expenses for hosting, domain, etc – the boss will pay for this)
I know the industry is different in other countries, but still I need some advice…..
Please let me know if there’s a problem. thank you.
Oh and she said she wants to use Elementor and Astra…
Oh and what Im curious is, how much coding will be needed in this process?

I wouldn’t take that job. If they think $700 is already too expensive, this literally isn’t worth your time. The only way It could ever be worth $700 is if you already have a boilerplate you can duplicate and host in like 20mins, which I personally have, so I could just shit out a website in like 4 hours, but like, if that person is going to go to $500, and you don’t already have a boilerplate you can just replicate, that’s barely worth the time it takes to setup all the basics for wp core, and create all of the basic brochure pages, lol.
As a learning opportunity that may lead to you feeling more confident and competent for real jobs… maybe?
It’s like a “paying in exposure” thing
