Few things you need to consider to make site lighter and make loading speed high:
* Use light weight theme
* Use less plugins (use only necessary one’s)
* Images size should be less than 100 kb (prefer webp format)
* Optimize JavaScript and CSS code
Remove unused css, delay and defer javascript, compress your images, minify js/css, object caching, page caching, remove database cruft. There’s a sizable amount more, but the things I mentioned will make a huge difference.
