So I’m not really new to WordPress, but I’m definitely not an expert. I’ve always started from scratch with sites, but my new job already has a WordPress Site.
The Problem is that the site is maintained by an outside company using the DIVI theme. This outside company is not doing a great job, and we want to bring the website in-house. To that end, I’ve been recreating the site on a local wamp install, copying over all the content and URLs so that the site structure is the same when we let this company go.
I’ve got a few questions on if I’m doing this right. I’m copying over all of the categories, tags, content, and urls manually, since I can’t really do anything to the site as it stands right now. Bringing all of this into a new theme, will keeping the structure and everything else keep me from getting too big a hit to our SEO efforts?
Also, the company has created a custom post type using DIVI. I’m trying to recreate the custom post type using post types unlimited, but I’m having trouble with two things. One is figuring out how to create the custom categories so that the new post type doesn’t share the categories from the default posts. Two is down to a DIVI feature. The post types are served on a page through DIVI, and I can not figure out a way to recreate this.
For instance, the url that serves the custom post type has the slug /our-work and is it’s own page. Is there a way to do this without DIVI? (I’m using Kadence)
I appreciate anyone who can give me some solid advice!

Most hosting platforms will have a migration tool. Once you migrate it to a staging site, repoint the domain and change the domain in WordPress.

Doing it manually will take some time… once you are done, grab a DIVI license for future updates…
