Is there a way to display a caption for post featured images by default when my theme does not include them? I attempted the FSM Custom Featured Images Caption but it places a URL for the caption.

Basically, as stated – I need a way to put an attribution under each featured image. The FSM Custom Featured Image Caption plugin by Fesomia seems to do what I want mainly – i.e. grab the media library caption and enable it on the posts – but the entire caption is displayed as a link to the post’s own permanent URL. I can’t think of a good reason for the featured image of a post to use the caption to link to that same post, but so it does (for me, anyway!). Is there a good way to do this? Forgive a noob here if there’s something obvious. This plugin seems to be a common answer according to my searches. TIA!
