Nested menu display and selection problem

[ad_1]

If I select (hover) ‘Novels’>’Liverpool’>’Ireland’>’Housing’ and then click,

This is already way too complex. And I don’t mean complex from your point of view as the creator, but from the end-user’s accessibility and usability angles.

This is only going to confuse and frustrate your users. And confused and frustrated users don’t buy!

Please, don’t.

If you need some convincing, kindly see this User Experience (UX) Q&A: How to explain to director that a multilevel dropdown menu isn’t a good idea. Look at the detailed answer citing HCI (human-computer interaction) research findings!

Instead, use a mega menu.

Here’s why: https://www.nngroup.com/articles/mega-menus-work-well/

There are several free WordPress plugins for this.

You should also consider adding:

1) An index page that provides an outline or on-page sitemap of the entire structure you want to have

2) Breadcrumbs above each page, clearly showing where the current page is in the hierarchy, with links to parent pages.

3) Clearly visible search box on all pages (ideally in the header, or above/below the breadcrumb)

Good luck!

Thanks George. I’ll take your steer and check out megamenus.
