Notification Web App with loads of different subscriptions

[ad_1]

Hey everyone,

I’ve got a weird one. [My church]) uses a LOT of WhatsApp groups. I’ve been asked to simplify that with a web app and would feel comfortable sticking to WordPress, which the website is built with, but I’m happy to build it separately as a subdomain. There are some 40 WhatsApp groups within the church all working separately so church information is distributed and inconsistent. The reason for this is that each person needs very different information. For example, I am a youth leader and barista, so I really don’t need to see news about the kids ministry. WhatsApp groups solved this problem just fine when there were only 100 or so of us, but we’ve grown a lot since then and the groups are painful. I’ve got messages from 6 different groups in the last 2 days and I haven’t actually read them all.

Ideally, it would be a site that shows information that I need, from the ministries that I need. All very simply. I can tell you some of my ideas, but feel free to give me something totally different,

1. [Oaknut]) is a cool little them by Anders Noren that could work. I’d link each button to a blog post that would be regularly updated by the relevant ministry area leader. For example “Youth news” “Kids News”, etc. Issue is that everyone would have access to all information. On top of that, I feel like peeps would ignore this most of the time. I can’t imagine a 70 year old logging on to check what their Bible study is doing that week.
2. Just use the website and blogs. I could set up a blog page, call it “news” and then divide it into the ministry sections. The ministry area leaders could then post a blog each week, choose their category and it would show up under the relevant heading. I build the site back when I still used Elementor, so it should be easy for them to do.
3. Use unique user roles. This gets me the most excited but also the most confused. I’d make a subdomain and have a tailored news feed there. Somehow I’d have each person getting their relevant roles. I’ve done something similar, but with only 2 roles on the site as it was a hiring platform with employers and employees. With this, however, I’d have complex roles with lots of overlap. Using myself as an example again, I’d need to see news for coffee and youth and someone else might need news for coffee and kids ministry. Is there a membership plugin similar to Memberpress that could do that?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Ya’ll are always super helpful here. Cheers!
