Offsite backups – thoughts on JetPack

[ad_1]

WP newbie here.

I've just created my first WordPress. I followed the Tyler Moore YouTube tutorial to get myself set up, so used HostGator for hosting. During the set-up process, Hostgator offered an add-on to back up your site (powered by CodeGuard) for $35.88/year. Tyler advised not taking this, and instead using a plug-in on WordPress – All-in-One WP Migration. Tyler shows you how to run the back-up with this plug-in and export this out to a file, which you can save to your desktop.

When I go to Hostgator now, it's offering JetPack for backups, for approx $60/year.

I'm curious:

1/ Does having some "external" / offsite backup give you something in addition to backing up via the WP plugin in this case, where we're already creating a file and saving to desktop (so by definition it's offsite)?

2/ Has anyone used JetPack and found it easy to use. For context, I've messed up my site a few times in the set-up so would be lovely to just be able to basically have a Ctrl+z function!

Or am I being a bit OTT for a newbie WordPress even thinking about this?
