Recreate CallRail ‘Local Swap’ Functionality?

[ad_1]

I run a local services business – we get a lot of traffic organically via Google, etc.

I recently learned about the ‘local swap’ feature from CallRail – reads the visitor’s IP and displays a (tracking/vanity) phone number that matches their area (and forwards to our main line). I think it’s a safe assumption that if all else is equal, a visitor is more likely to engage with a local service provider that has a phone number with a local area code.

Unlike other similar tools I’ve seen (Geotargetly, Geotargetingwp), Local Swap doesn’t require any short codes, I don’t need to change code for every single instance of my phone number on every single page… it just changes everything automatically with the 1 simple CallRail JS code.

Of course, CallRail has tons of great tracking/analytics features… but I’d really love to not spend $50+ just for the 1 feature.

Does anyone know of a tool/script/WordPress plugin that can do this number swapping based on IP?

  1. IP to area code is easy, but do you have a service that can just spin up new forwarding numbers on the fly? I imagine you can do this with twilio for a lot less than $50/mo. I’m trying to imagine why this is useful, but I can’t. Every visitor gets a unique 7-digit number so the person answering the phone can dig through their browsing history? I can understand the benefit for shop orders, and form submissions.. but you would already have their phone number to match at that point.
