I currently run a news website with over 6,000+ articles assigned to over 24-25 categories.
We’re planning to streamline categories and tags. Right now we have over 24 categories and we’ll boil it down to 8 main categories with some sub categories.
Is there a way to do this in bulk? Any plugins, or methods that you recommend? Any experts who have run news websites big enough to have struggled through the same situation?
For example, setting up conditions/rules for all articles that are categorised under Google and Phones, to be moved to Category Tech and subcategory Smartphones.
Similarly setting up rules that based on current categories assignment and tags applied or other factors that will help automate this effort to some extent, and would re-sort articles in the new category that I define.

How would you do something like this in bulk? Usually applying a category needs to be done by a human, unless you have specific words in the titles, or something like that?
