So today we looked at our Google search console and somehow we have 6775 external links, we realistically only had about 12. This is a fairly new website. It’s only been up since about March. I’m guessing that this is some sort of spam or something. I’m not sure. This seems insane to me.
They are all super wild links to like dating sites or other promiscuous type sites, or they are a 404 page that doesn’t exist.
I have no idea what to do other than disavowing the domains. Any ideas or feedback on what the heck this is all about?
Why would somebody do this in the first place and why the heck would they target my website which is so little and probably not even known to 99.999999% of the population?

It’s been a while since Google said that spammy links will be ignored by the algorithm, thus there’s not much need anymore to disavow them. There are all sorts of crazy, spammy sites on the internet. I recommend not trying to make sense of it, why they do it, why it happened to your site… It’s probably random, not targeted. I wouldn’t worry about it.

If they’re outbound, then it does sound like you’ve been hacked. You asked why would your site get hacked? Because it’s on the internet and Google indexes your site, which then sees the links pointing to the spam sites and increases their ranking due to referral links (known as backlinks), which are a valuable seo metric. The volume of traffic your site gets is irrelevant.
Install Wordfence and run a scan.
