Transparent Header, removing Image Mask leaves a black square

I’m building my own website in WordPress, and have a logo (PNG, transparent background) and I’m using a transparent Header.

If I use Masking, it’s terrible. Corners are clipped off my logo, or the mask is clearly cropped at the top/bottom of the Header.

If I choose NO masking, my “transparent” logo has a giant black box around it.

Any suggestions here would be much appreciated :/
