I installed the htaccess and user.ini to “optimize the wordfence firewall” and it said success/complete. After a couple days the message came back to “optimize wordfence firewall”. My site is hosted on cloudways, and I asked cloudways and they said that they checked and that the .user.ini file is present, and so is the htaccess, and they said that “since youre using wordpress, its possible to deactivate the bot protection” which may be causing the issue im having according to this thread:
https://wordpress.org/support/topic/firewall-optimisation-message-keeps-appearing/
What should I do? Cloudways says its safe to deactivate bot protection since im already using wordfence.
I have my domain with cloudflare if that helps, free version.

I subscribed to the $5/mo malcare bit protection in lieu of wordfence. With CloudFlare’s WP addon, I’m comfortable with my level of protection.
Sounds like they are overwriting each other. They are right you would be fine disabling the bot protection. At least for the average setup. Lots of options in word fence and cloudflare that gives you more than enough protection
Also, I run two other sites that use wordfence on Cloudways and I don’t have the bot protection plugin installed. No issues with the config popup.
