Hi, I’m here because I hope my description matches a known issue…
**Description:**
Some months ago I built a worpress website for my parents business.
Now the provider of the webspace have locked the corresponding MySQL database and explained, that the traffic on it had been much too high. They are suspecting we are running high load applications, such as chat-systems, addclicks, etc., which we are not. It is a mostly static website with a few subpages, some pdfs and a catalog of their products (with WooCommerce and Catalog Plugin, plus filters). Nothing crazy.
Years ago, a similar issue once occured with their old joomla site, where someone used an exploit to send spam from their domain, but back then they received tons of autoreplies and the like, which they haven’t this time.
**Question:**
Are there any known exploits to WordPress pages, that could enable third parties to use our site for their purposes and cause the high traffic? How could I fix them? Are there other common reasons for a much higher database traffic than expected, that have nothing to do with a malicious exploit??
**To make it more difficult:** As I said, the provider has completely blocked it. We cannot access our database and therefor cannot properly investigate the cause, so please don’t ask me for any data from there. The website is down and not working due to this, so I can’t run a simple website security scanner either, nor would it help providing the link here. What we can access is the webspace.
At first we suspected the high traffic came from me recently uploading a bunch of font files (to fix the old googlefonts issue) and downloading some logs, but that doesn’t have to do anything with the database, just with the webspace, correct?
