Ok, so here’s a tough one. I have a client with a wordpress website, half russian, half english. Runs using Polylang, elementor, has quite some pages left and right, is optimized using litespeed, object cache and cloudflare.
All plugins are legitimate, from wordpress repository, no nulled stuff. On occasional issue, the site just “brick” and stops showing complete blog content, lets say the whole output page of the blog, is just blank.
It took me and a colleague at least a full day to figure out, there’s nothing wrong with the website, it’s something else. And after i digged deeper into things, i learned that a RU locale file “might be missing” on my server.
So i check, and indeed, it’s not there (anymore) and it’s missing out of the options that you can install using a manual SSH command. So i ask my server manager, get that file for me please, perhaps it solves the issue.
Nada. It does not exist. So i contact the provider on which i have a license on, they reply very brief within 15 minutes, execute this command and it’s good. Suddenly the file is there. I come to the conclusion that the RU file,
Was pulled out of a new update, due to russian sanctions it seems that western company’s or software providers are obliged to now. Apart from that, after reinstalling that Ru Locale thing again, things work as intended.
So the website runs for days to weeks OK again; and yesterday, POP… Whole thing gets broken again. All the clients wrote me was,
*I started changing the links and it broke again*
*I clicked right on this-Edit with Elementor.*
*last time – Edit – and after -Edit with Elementor*
And poof, the whole blog output page is missing, some menu structures completely not working anymore, and quite some 404’s. We can’t figure out what exactly is going on here. From within the admin you can access the hard links to view the page.
From outside you can’t. I already disabled anything that might be conflicting or in effect. I have no idea. Once we restore a backup, things work fine, you can alter, edit, save, change, make new. Its just with one random occasion, a right click edit with elementor, and poof things suddenly break with no explanation. Obviously the RU file is still on the server.
But i’m not sure if this causes any issues at this point. The RU Locale translate russian chars or into western encoding. It was weird that it was missing, or was unavailable when trying to install it. The RU locale file has nothing todo with wordpress, it’s a thing you install on a server to have your server understand the special chars that might not work on western based servers. Just like having chinese chars into a domain or URL, you’ll need a locale file in order to make your server understand.

What does the server PHP error logs show? Has the host been contacted?
