ACF or Custom Gutenberg Blocks: Which Is Better for Specific Content Creation Needs?

[ad_1]

Hello! I’m looking for some guidance on building a website. Over the years, I’ve created several WordPress sites mainly using ACF and Elementor for content management/creation. I haven’t explored Gutenberg blocks since their introduction. I have an upcoming project that requires page-building functionality similar to Elementor, where the client can build a page with content blocks, but only for two types of custom posts. I’m planning to use fairly simple blocks, probably just 4-5 different types. What tools do you all use for content creation these days? Is ACF still widely used, or has the trend shifted towards creating custom Gutenberg blocks as the best practice? Or is there any other plugin/library?

  1. If you are used to ACF and need to get something out, there is nothing wrong with it. If you have a longer timeline, care about how the editor experience looks and can handle react go custom (and look up static vs dynamic blocks). You can define what blocks are allowed by cpt. If the design is simple enough you might be able to get away with patterns and core block variations.

  2. Just create custom ACF Blocks. They will show in the sidebar just like all other blocks but you can add fields in them so the client doesnt break the design of the block.

  3. Depends on developer to developer. Some are using Acf, some are using Page builders, some are using Guten. It just depends.
