Hi Tobias,
I have tried following your instructions to adding placeholder text to the search field and it doesn’t seem to work. Not sure if I understood your instructions from previous posts properly. This is what i did:
- installed and activated https://tablepress.org/extensions/change-datatables-strings/
- opened the lang.en-US.json files and underneath the “search”: line item i added: “searchPlaceholder”: “testing”,
- re-installed the plugin with updated json file update
- edited the .php file in “tablepress/i18n/datatables/” folder with ‘searchPlaceholder’=> ‘testing’ underneath ‘search’ => ‘Search:’,
- reinstalled plugin
- updated the shortcode to [table id=1 datatables_locale=en_US /]
you mentioned in your article to “To use this Extension, just install and activate it like a regular WordPress plugin. Then copy the “lang-xy_XY.json” file of your language from the “tablepress/i18n/datatables/” folder to the “tablepress-change-datatables-strings” folder. (The “en_US” file is already in that folder, as an example.) – however there was no .json file in “tablepress/i18n/datatables/” , only .php files
If you could please shine some light on this for me that would be much appreciated.
