Have not seen pending WP or plugin updates in weeks on /wp-admin/update-core.php or /wp-admin/plugins.php but WP Engine hosting admin shows both WP and many pending updates. I can't actually update them from the hosting admin and since WP Dashboard shows none.
Taking advice to troubleshoot by disabling plugins one by one, I pushed full copy from Prod to Staging and updated PHP on staging to match Prod. They match in every way I know except those page on Staging show pending updates just fine.
What could be happening or not happening on Prod that is or isn't happing on Staging?
