Advice for portfolio site – asolute begginer.

[ad_1]

I'm a designer and I need to build a portfolio site for myself. I started In Framer, and it was going well until I figured it had a 5 MB file size limit. (The contents of my site will be mostly photos and some videos.)

I started researching again, and everything points back to a WordPress-based site, but it's so overwhelming.

I'm really confused about the hostings, builders, WordPress itself, and how to set up everything. From what I could gather from this subreddit, it's best to pick everything individually and then make it work.

So if anyone has patience, I would really appreciate an ELI5 about the steps I should take and what builder I should choose for a similar experience to Framer (I have been watching Bricks tutorials following some recommendations here as well, but maybe there are better suggestions)

Thanks in advance!

  1. Hello! Start with WordPress. If you do not code, try to start with something like Elementor (Easy to learn)
You can also focus on Gutenberg, the default wordpress editor.
Feel free to message if you get stuck.

  2. buy a hosting -> build a WP site -> install a plugin that can handle your work (since your works seem to be 5MB each, it would be a nightmare for your visitors to wait for a long time for it to be fully loaded) -> That’s it. BTW, glad to help at a low cost.![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|upvote)

  3. You need to get hosting to host your site, most hosts have 1 click install of wordpress. Don’t use wordpress.com, bluehost, godaddy, hostgator for hosting. There are a lot of other bad hosts as well so make sure you do your research. Don’t trust random reviews online because most are getting affiliate revenue to promote them. /r/webhosting is pretty good for researching hosts.

    Install wordpress on host

Figure out how you’re going to build site, page builder, gutenberg, code and then build site.

You could also buy a prebuilt theme/template and just switch out content.

Bricks is really good but could be learning curve depending on your skill level. There are quite templates for bricks like bricksplus.io, list of bricks add ons here – https://bricksdirectory.com/. If you’re a web designer, bricks would be a good skill to have.
