Advice on Using Fiverr

[ad_1]

Hi All,

I am looking at building a website to use to advertise some personal consulting. I have written my content, have some idea on layout and design but I really want an expert eye on it, I have starting learning WordPress and I think I can get the hang of it but for a couple of hundred dollers people on Fiverr could build it for me which would give me the foundation to work off.

What I would like is;

* Advice in designing a really professional site (layout, colors, style etc.)

* Someone to build the site per the design

* Help building out my infograohics

I expect people on Fiverr churn the work out to the minimum standard to get the job done. Are people able to please offer advice on how best to approach the above to get the best quality result

e.g. go to one person for all the work, multiple people or am I asking too much from Fiverr etc.

Otherwise I have been chipping away at it myself but it seems like really good value to spend a couple of hundred dollers and get someone to help me down the road.

Thanks

  1. With Fivver you are taking a gamble. What is your budget to spend on the site build and monthly budget for hosting and management?

  2. If you’re already dabbling with wordpress, just use a template and adapt as necessary. It is relatively easy these days to get a website up and running.

  3. Fiver is a gamble you will end up spending more

Try finding a wp agency locally or use templates and manage your clients either with mainwp or other services

  4. I;ve had som good experiences with fiverr. I use someone to convert print to ebooks, for instance, and he is rock solid. He charges a reasonable fee and troubleshoots the work if there are issues. You need to find someone with whom you have a good working relationship.

Working with someone in asia is helpful in that when I quit for the day, work is happening while I sleep. and living in an area where consultants are very expensive, this is a good solution.

again, the relationship is key. read reviews, ask questions.

as far as the comments about “just do it yourself, its easy” I can tell you that if you;re not well versed in CSS and HTML it really isnt. you’ll need support in one form or another.

I am a lifetime member of Elegant themes, and they have pretty good support, and today I am still ready tho throw the computer out the window because things arent working as expected.

  5. “Couple of hundred dollars”.

Websites should cost a minimum of a couple of thousand. The ones that charge a few hundred either is lowballing, has no idea what he/she’s doing, or is not capable of doing the work.

  6. If your budget is really a couple hundred dollars, maybe reevaluate budget or just do it yourself. The couple hundred you spend will likely include numerous headaches and frustrations that aren’t worth it (unless you get lucky and find a diamond in the rough who is churning out $200 websites, is highly responsive, and does great work), when you can grab a theme and do it yourself if you want.

If you can spring for $1k look to a local high school or college, there’s going to be some kid who needs an extra $1k for the school year and is looking to build his / her portfolio.

If you can spring for 3-5k there’s a local agency that can help you build a relatively nice looking website.

Also don’t forget about hosting / maintenance with WordPress…could be a better DIY site with something like Webflow or Squarespace, WP is likely overkill for what it sounds like you need. And overall “liftime” costs of WP will greatly exceed that of Webflow or SQSP.

  7. WordPress has a learning curve but it really isn’t that difficult to learn or use. Why not watch a couple YouTube videos and attempt to built it yourself. That’s what I did. Here it is over 10 years later and I’ve build over a hundred sites for people. Heck you can buy a theme and use one of their predesigned templates and be ¾ done in a couple hours. I did that at the beginning also. Your site will need maintenance so if on a small budget building and managing it yourself is probably your best option. Worst case find someone you trust and work with them. There are probably hundreds of college kids near you who will build you a site for a small fee. I used Fiverr years ago and will never do so again.

  8. Don’t use Fiverr for this. It’s too risky. I doubt you’ll be happy with the end result. Find a local freelancer that you get along with. You’ll get much better results because this person will care about their work and their reputation locally.
