Another question on changing from non-www to www domain.

[ad_1]

I have a WordPress website hosted on a shared hosting server with a non-www domain. For some reason, I want to change it to the www domain. I’ve searched around on Google, and most of them talk about 301 redirections (I already got it), but there is no mention of the process prior to the “301 redirection process” (if I have to do it). I’m still unclear now.
– Do I have to create a subdomain “www.mydomain.com”?
– Do I have to install an SSL certificate for this subdomain as normal?
– Do I have to clone my current website to this new www subdomain?
– Which folder should the cloned website be in, the “public_html” or “www.mydomain.com” folder?

  1. Usually, DNS entries account for both. You can test by going to the WWW address and seeing if it resolves to the non-WWW.

You don’t have to create a subdomain, it’s already implied.

You will need to create a redirect via htaccess to push all traffic to www via 301 redirect. Currently, it sounds like you have the opposite going on.

This is the same for any site, WordPress-based or not.
