Hi. Apologies for asking such a basic question!
I’m a doctor and used a professional web designer to create my practice website. I’m keen to update it and I want to start from scratch so that I can then update it myself.
I was going to use the Divi template – would be keen for feedback on how suitable this would be for a complete beginner.
The main cause of my anxiety is how I can develop the site while keeping my current site up and running. Is this possible? I reckon it’s going to take me a few weeks to build the site, so need patients to be able to access the current site as it is.
I’m also not sure where the current site is hosted, but suspect it’s godaddy. If I don’t even know this, am I too naive to make this work?

Your best bet would be to set up a staging environment and test/implement all changes there. This would make sure your original website does not break and users can always access it.
It would also be best practice to disallow google to crawl this staging website and password protect it from user access.
Your hosting provider can support you with the process of creating a staging site for your current website!

Easiest: If your site is hosted on a platform you can create a separate site, take your time and when youre done just transfer the domain to the new site.
Most efficient: staging like someone said
Fastest: upload a template design, unless youre looking for a fully custom made website then that coulf take a while.
Elementor is easy to learn. So is divi.
If i may ask, is your site on wordpress . Com or .org. Makes a big difference
