I’ve been trying twenty-twenty one/two/three and it’s not just working too well for a blog. I’ve looked at elementor and others recommended but they have most of their content hidden behind a pro version. Are there any decent blog themes that are completely free or atleast in the meantime, very customizable before their pro version?

You don’t need the pro version of any theme.
Just because it’s a paid theme, it does not mean the quality of it is free.
Ignore all those builders, they are bloated rodent excrement.
