At my wits end – ads on WordPress site

[ad_1]

I am helping someone with their WordPress site as ads have started appearing on it, you can see the google ads at the top and the side: [https://nzcb.ac.nz/])

* I got the hosting to update the PHP which is now 7.0.27
* Updated WordPress so it is now 6.1.1
* Have updated all the plugins.
* Enabled https and SSL certificate.
* Uninstalled and reinstalled the theme (Avada)
* Installed WordFence, the Firewall works. However, the scan keeps failing There has been a critical error on this website. Not sure what is causing it.

I am completely out of ideas now other than re-building the whole site. Any help is appreciated as I have tried google with not much luck.

  1. I hope you meant PHP 8.0.27?

[https://builtwith.com/nzcb.ac.nz]) is saying WordPress 5.1, which is ancient.

Since you’re using Avada, you need to make you’re using the latest version, since old versions have security issues (which you might not be able to update to if you’re using an old WP version)

If you’re getting the critical error message, then you need to “enable debugging” (google it) and fix it.

  2. Disable all plugins, if the google ads are now gone, re-enable one by one and see if the culprit is found. Also change the theme to 2023 or another WordPress default one. I do WordPress maintenance and troubleshooting and based in New Zealand if you need further help (charged at an hourly rate).
