Backup WordPress upload folders and databases free

[ad_1]

Hi everyone

I’d rather not use a plugin if possible and I want to keep these subscription fees down as they’re starting to add up.

I’m creating my themes and plugins locally and using GIT so I don’t feel I need to backup the whole site, I’m thinking it’s only the uploads directory and database I need to backup unless I am mistaken. I want to store these in my Google Drive account and from what I can understand, the Google Drive API will allow me to do this, I’m just struggling on how.

Ideally I want to make the backup once a week (i.e. Sunday night at 11pm) but I need a little help getting this together.

Has anyone done something like this and can share their experience?

  1. Updraft is free. I use it to backup to aws s3 and Dropbox daily for ~100 sites. I’m not sure if Google drive is part of the free offering though.
