Backups with Woocommerce question

[ad_1]

If I have auto updates running and one of my plugin updates messes the site and I have to restore it from backup, if I’m using the backup solution from my hosting and I restore a woocommerce site what happens to the new orders? Will they dissapear?

  1. Unless I’m somehow mistaken, in this situation anything that wasn’t part of the backup will be gone. This is why I recommend to my clients with Ecommerce on their sites that the more frequently you can backup the better.

  2. If you ever need to restore, do at the very least a database backup right before the restore.

You may not be able to get to the data yourself, but someone who knows what their doing could for you.

Also, unless you are flooded with orders, I tell people to set up an e-mail account (not on the same server) that will do nothing but receive a copy of all receipts sent out, so at the very least you could get orders out from there if they are physical, and activated permissions for people if they are digital.

  3. “Messes up the site” – what does that mean exactly?

It’s very rare that you’d actually need to ever do a restore with WP – most plugin-related issues are easily solved with debugging. Restoring should be a last resort only, as you will lose any data since the last backup was made obviously. It’s much better to fix the problem – if a plugin is breaking your site, figure out why. Maybe it’s garbage, maybe it conflicts with something in your site, maybe it’s been abandoned.
