Backward browser compatibility – how far and how to fix?

[ad_1]

Im a non-developer wp user. Ive been slowly building a site over the past couple years that functions like a product catalog.

I recently launched it and got about 500 users in the first two days, mostly through social media.

My problem is that even though i checked browser compatibility on different browsers at least 2 people that im aware of had issues with the site not loading. I figured out it was due to their browsers being out of date. After checking on Browserling it showed chrome 83 and older didnt not work. I havent tested exact dates for other browsers yet.

My big question – how far back should my site be compatible? And whats the best way to go about addressing backwards compatibility issues? And ensuring it in the future?

One other browser issues i noticed was safari blocking a hyperlink on my homepage from opening in new tab because it was seen as a pop-up while other browsers did not including Brave. Any ideas for why this is happening would also be much appreciated.

And if the solution is get a dev, please recommend me where. Havent had best experience online.

Thanks for your time and insight 🙂
