Beginner question about WordPress

[ad_1]

I am a graphic designer who has recently jumped into making websites in webflow. I love it but it is expensive and I’m worried about being locked into it long-term.

A friend has asked me to build them a website — a very basic brochure/landing page style website for a landscaping business. But of course the designer in me wants it to still look very high-end and custom. I added an example from my moodboard to this post.

I’m considering working with WordPress so they aren’t locked in to webflow (and their pricing) but I am SO confused.

Their domain is currently through GoDaddy (I know everyone hates GoDaddy) and I see that they also offer a managed WordPress service (which would be wordpress.org, right??). If I go that route, will I be able to use plug ins like elementor without needing an additional subscription?

Or should I just set them up through Elementor’s managed WordPress service?

I think my main concern (aside from long-term functionality) is trying to avoid having them sign up for webflow for $200/year, and having them sign up for three different services (hosting, plugs ins, etc.) that end up costing the same/more in the end.

Also my previous experience with WordPress was all on WordPress.com so I was super limited in my design options which makes me nervous to commit to WordPress.org.

If you made it this far — thank you!! I definitely have a few more grey hairs from this experience and I haven’t even started the website.

  1. Try name-cheap, green geeks or Google best wp host 2024. Move every thing! Then you can install what you want and design amazingly brilliant sites

  2. Hi can you dm a link to your portfolio? I like that design a lot if it’s original.

  3. Yes, the multiple subscriptions is what you’re aiming for — based on your post. Godaddy sucks, period. Get a domain, cloudflare registrar, its so cheap they legally cant promote it, and they are a MAJOR brand. WPMU Dev hosting, if you want hosting to “just fucking work”. And your pagebuilder of choice. I recommend Oxygen for its lifetime purchase, though i’ve gotten feedback its more technical. Elementor is more user friendly.

Have fun! Make bank! Enjoy your WordPress journey, and welcome to the community!
