Hi all,
I am based in the UK and currently looking to build two websites for my startup businesses. I am currently not in a position to outsource the work to an agency and therefore taking the role of doing it myself.
Having researched different options (wordpress, squarespace, webflow, wix, etc.), I have realised that wordpress is the way to go according to the majority of experts. I don’t have any previous experience with IT/Computing but don’t mind learning to launch these projects. I am a little confused in terms of getting started around domains, hosting, wordpress (org vs com) and any general suggestions + reccomendations would be highly appreciated.
Also, if there are any fast track courses that are beginner friendly to get me up and running would be great.
For context, one website will be used as a digital brochure for an upcoming real estate project and the second website will be a single product ecommerce store. These two projects are completely unrelated. I am looking for some advice and guidance in terms of getting my websites up and running most efficiently and economically.

I collected and organized for our clients [basic tutorials from WPBeginner](https://www.reddit.com/r/WordPress_org/comments/147qits/wordpressfriendly_trainings_for_beginners/) (text and videos), and they are very happy with it (they can follow them and understand), so maybe you can take a look and see if this approach suits you as well?
We also have our own arsenal of WP tools that we rely on when working in WordPress. Over time, we’ve discovered and become comfortable with various apps that have become essential to our workflow. My advice would be to buy the domains and point them to some WordPress specific managed hosting. I would use an off the shelf theme from WordPress.org like 2020 or 2024 etc, and I would just use something common and out of the box as possible. If it’s a single product and brochure site you shouldn’t need to learn web development. For products you can install /r/woocommerce spend your time on the business and marketing side of things 🙂

If you really do not know anything about webdev and want to handle this part alone I highly recommand you to go for a full managed solution such as shopify.
Since you dont have basics of security or know exactly the quality of the code you gonna run on it through extentions and things like that, I think you are taking useless risks for your company if sensitive data or core buisness logic are running through your website. Plus you will lost a lot of precious time by not working on your core project.
Anyway, if your goal is to put something static online, like for showing your prices or giving a presentation of your company. WordPress can do the job but a simple html page with inline js and css hosted alsmost freely on cloudflare can do the job too.
I’m going to echo what some others have said. Get your domain ( I use cloudflare because they also offer some protection as well) and since you’re just starting off, go with a host that offers managed hosting for WordPress sites. The hosting companies will typically set up your WordPress install for you so you can just get going learning WordPress and not get caught up on everything that comes before. One of the first things you should do is look for a decent theme, I personally use kadence theme and install their kadence blocks plugin. I’ve found their theme configuration to be super intuitive and there are a ton of tutorials out there.
