Months back I exported a copy of our site to Local as a test run, but had to do some fiddling as the promised drag and drop just didn't work.
Fast forward and I've tried to repeat the process again with our suite, and also with clients sites on their machines using a fresh copy of Local…
And it fails
Every
Time.
Have tired all of their supported methods, but it just doesn't work.
WP installs, but without any plugins, media or themes, despite all existing in the exported wp-contents folder and Local's site directory.
Can anyone recommend a good, known, WORKING alternative to this broken software? Needs to have a GUI and not involve spinning up Docker or other local resources – not my forte and just want an easy to admin app, etc.

Hm, I don’t think there are others like that, the closest one is an online tool like sandboxcms.com but it’s not the same thing and it will Def not be the best option if you want to work with CLI or locally.
i am a fan of docker – thats what i use for my clients pages
DevKinsta is similar but it uses Docker under the hood. You don’t have to manage it, the tool does it for you. I think you need to install Docker desktop though.
Dev Kinsta. Works like a charm (on Mac, haven’t tried it on Windows). It will install and configure the Docker for you.
