I want to create a livestreaming website that can save the videos afterwards on it. I’ve seen wpstream and they charge 400$ a month 😅
I assume i could embed a youtube livestream and videos while having them “private” on youtube but streaming them to subscribers on my website. Has anyone tried that? Would it work? Any other suggestions or solutions??

WordPress may not be the solution in this case.
There are alot of “streaming” platforms that allow you to create your own website

I beleive Vimeo is also what alot of creators from Youtube are moving to for their subscriptions
If you need a more robust website, you can always build your main website on WordPress, and then have people/members directed to the website that contains your streaming
I would go with embedding a YouTube livestream. WordPress works really well with YouTube embed, you same a lot of money from outside streaming services, and everything from saving can be done through YouTube. It saves a lot of time, effort, and money.
Vimeo has a service for this (or used to) I don’t remember the pricing. Of course if you’re having multiple people streaming versus just one that is also a different problem with different requirements. But the reality is YouTube is your best option getting started because you’re playing Googles game by using it. So it’s a win win.

You could do that, and you could use the API to check when your stream is live, but there’s nothing to stop people copying the stream URL and sharing it.
The only real way, provided you want a decent framerate, would be to set up your own RTMP server and stream to that, to which I can attest, is a pain in the ass. You could probably run it off a cheap digitalocean VPS, but it won’t be much fun to set up.
