Hi, I’m looking to start a local business directory website combining the business listings with blog posts geared towards tourists.
I’m in over my head. It’s not clear to me whether I should be looking for a directory plug-in and/or a directory theme.
I previously purchased a highly reviewed and popular theme on Themeforest for a different site and it was slow, cumbersome and support was poor. My lack or WordPress experience didn’t help!
So now on my sites I use a simple Twenty Twenty Three theme and the block editor. The sites are pretty plain but fast.
In addition to any guidance on how to proceed with a directory site I’m also wondering if anyone has advice on how to find someone to assist in setting up and maintaining the site? I’m not looking for custom development or anything like that. I’m merely seeking someone who can help advise me on the plugin(s), theme, installing, updating, etc. (I use Knownhost and am happy with them.)
Thanks and I apologize if this is confusing. I have ADHD pretty bad.

I’ve done something like this in WP, and since then I think there are better ways to do this in flutter/dart. It’s more complex, but it’s smoother and more flexible for sure.
What area of the country? The critical mass problem is a bigger issue than development. What’s your user strategy going to be? If you build it they will come isn’t gonna cut it.
Our plugin GeoDirectory can help with that. You can use it with our latest FSE Directory Theme which is bootstrap based free and super fast: [https://wordpress.org/themes/directory]), you can see a demo here: [https://demos.ayecode.io/directory])
You can use GeoDirectory with the Twenty Twenty-Three theme as well or with any theme you like. But as you already noticed, the new Block based themes (FSE full site editing) are a lot faster. Let me know if you have any questions.
