Hi fellow WordPress enthusiasts,
A WordPress beginner here! I am looking for some guidance on image optimization for my WordPress website. I have read up on image optimization for WordPress websites, but I am still curious if there are some universal best practices in the field. It’s evident that images play a crucial role in enhancing the visual appeal of our websites. Still, they can also impact the loading speed and performance of the site if not optimized properly. I want to ensure that my website loads quickly and efficiently without compromising image quality.
I’m seeking advice and best practices for image optimization in WordPress. Here are a few questions I have:
1. What image sizes should I use? WordPress generates multiple sizes of an image when uploaded, but which sizes are necessary for optimal performance? Should I use the default sizes or customize them? Or shouldn’t I bother at all?
2. What image formats are best for WordPress? JPEG, PNG, GIF, or WebP? Which format should I choose to strike a balance between image quality and file size?
3. Are there any recommended plugins or tools for image optimization in WordPress? I’ve heard of plugins like Smush, EWWW Image Optimizer, and Imagify, but what are the factors in choosing one over the other? Personally, I have used the GIMP plug-in.
4. Are there any other tips or tricks for image optimization that you recommend? For example, should I compress images before uploading them?
I appreciate any insights or experiences you can share regarding best practices for image optimization in WordPress.
Thank you in advance for your help!
