Best themes for beginner devs with HTML/CSS/JS bg

[ad_1]

So I’m comfortable with creating basic websites with HTML/CSS & JavaScript, and a headless CMS when necessary. I’m also reasonably comfortable with basic angular and typescript, with MySQL and REST API (though am still a beginner).

BUT I’ve been getting a few small business clients that would prefer to use something with a CMS like WordPress. I’ve built WordPress sites using elementor, which I did find quite easy to customize, but still found it a bit clunky and prefer being able to use a bit more hard coding.

I’ve looked into using a skeleton theme like underscores, but the trouble is my php is shaky and I think it’s a bit too steep of a learning curve at this point..

TLDR:

1. Are there any themes you’d recommend where you can use some hard-coded sections so I can work up to being able to build custom themes? Or do I just need to suck it up and learn to build the whole thing from scratch..
2. How do you familiarize yourself with editing theme code when you have to work with a child theme to accommodate updates?
