Best way to get a vanilla gallery with lightbox

I’ve developed a website for a customer. I used one of the standard themes, like the 2022 one.

I’ve made a gallery and each click on an image goes to the picture.

Just wondering how to get lightbox instead of going to the picture?

I can’t see any options. Assuming I need to install a plugin. I searched and there seems to be loads of choice. I thought I’d ask for a recommendation before using one.
