Best way to mothball a site that still gets decent traffic

[ad_1]

I have a couple of sites devoted to TV shows that ended about 10 years ago. When the shows were on the air, these were the largest fansites with millions of visitors and extensive content. The sites still get a decent amount of traffic from folks “discovering” the shows after the fact and looking for information.

I don’t anticipate anything new happening with these shows in the near future, but I’d like to keep the sites up and running as archives. I have them set to be essentially “read only” with comments turned off. What else should I do to mothball these sites?

  1. I agree with u/Melancholy-Zebra – but backup the site up first (and store the zips somewhere safe, off server) so that if you did want to add to it later, you can.
