Beware – This Celebrated Plugin Has Some SCUMBAG Marketing Tricks

[ad_1]

Hi everyone!

I have a site where i look for email inquires, and I took the time to setup the FREE version of WPFORMS.

I painstakingly setup gmail replies and tested it, and everything worked.

I then get weekly email stats from the plugin, and it consistently lies to me.

It is doing this to get me past the paywall and try and get me to UPGRADE.

Here is how I know they are using SCUMBAG LIES to sell me their product:

  1. Telling me in the summary emails that I have anywhere between 13-18 emails per week. How? The site has 4-7 visits a week.
  2. Putting ALL email logs behind a paywall. I never heard of this. This makes it impossible to see if your form is working right btw. I tested it just now, I know the form works, but you cannot see if maybe, just MAYBE you are not getting the emails, because you would have to pay to get that data.

I really dislike these sort of dark patters.

What is sad is that WPForms is such a great product, I worked with the paid version for a client, and it really is a good product.

Anyhow, just thought I would put this out there for Google search to find, and maybe help someone else.

  1. I found the fact that form entries are not accessible, but they mention that you can “save” them, to be very deceptive. You are able to “save” form entries but you can only retrieve them after upgrading. Very misleading. I’ve moved away from WP forms in favor of Forminator. As for paid form plugins, I would go with Gravity Forms.

Also, WP Mail SMTP (by the makers of WPForms) is fine, but I’ve found Fluent SMTP to be much better and the free version includes more features (like email logging).

  2. Yeah, Yoast did it too. It’s what Cory Doctorow calls “enshittification.”

I’m personally doing free software work, what we could call gift economy work, for WordPress. But I feel like an outlier.

  3. Don’t use it.
What’s crazy is WP refuses to put a decent form solution in core.

I use fluent forms and it’s fine. You need to pay for form software if you’re in business – gravity, fluent, etc.

Of use a block but you’ll have no logs.

  4. That’s why I don’t use anything from AwesomeMotive, they use the most shitty and shady tactics I’ve ever seen. Sadly they have acquired a couple of plugins that used to be good
