Hello, I have a friend I’m trying to help get a website together for his soon to launch boat rental business.
I no longer do any website work outside my job but I’m looking into options for him. One option is WordPress. One launched, the website would likely need to be managed by someone that is not very experienced with building websites and needs to be fairly simple for them. They are also looking to get something up in a matter of weeks.
Any one have any suggestions on good booking/rental plugins that could be used and managed easily?
I’m also going to give him options for Wix and Squarespace. Something completely custom is probably overkill for him especially with regards to price.

There’s actually quite a big gap in the market for something like this, that’s super intuitive for small companies to set up. All of the rental options are at least missing something, sometimes you can only add one item to a basket at once, sometimes they only check inventory after you’ve gone to the checkout, sometimes they don’t check inventory at all, sometimes they don’t integrate well enough with accounting software.
For something simple for a business that doesn’t currently have a website, go as basic as possible. Don’t try to make a site that takes reservations for a first website. With WordPress you can easily add it later.
Just focus on making a site with a homepage, about page, products and services page and a contact page where customers can either email or call.
A basic website doesn’t need more than that to start with. Just make sure the theme you use is responsive for mobile and ready for local SEO.
