Booting up WordPress without MySQL

Playing with the new Sqlite plugin [Sqlite plugin]) . It looks good. The only thing is that it’s a plugin, so a previously installed WordPress instance is required to bootstrap it…

That’s a bit disappointing in that it would be good to be able to boot up a WP instance without MySQL at all. This would simplify the installation process, particularly for multi-instances support and dockerization. It would also help all those WP newbies who would copy a site and forgot the DB.

For websites, SQLite quotes the ability to handle 100K hits per day as a conservative estimate. That would be in the range of many “normal” websites.

Looking through the plugin code to see if I can totally remove the need for MySQL. Will report back.
