Hi r/Wordpress
I’m a senior fullstack web developer and have recently dipped my toes into wordpress. It’s not that bad as it gets the job done pretty quickly, but in the recent months I learned that the more plugins the more stress… and I got hacked. lol
So my main point is to reduce the plugins to a absolute minimum so i can fire & forget a project. I tunred on auto updates and wordfence, so when something updates I get an email and then I quickly check if everything is still working.
Never mind, I digress, I was starting of with Bricks Builder and it kind of mimics webflow – which is great. My only issue is that scroll animations can only be established through additional plugins like bricksforge, which is against my policy of reducing plugin size.
Now I am considering Breakdance as they have animations built in, don’t get me wrong, Bricks have also animations but in the real world those are maximum usable for reveal stuff.
I would to ask you guys if you made the switch from Bricks to Breakdance or the other way around and why you did that? What are your solutions for adding animations to bricks?
Thanks

Maxime Beguin, creator of Advanced Themer for Bricks, has a great method for adding CSS micro animations to Bricks that I use all the time:

For more complex animations, GSAP integration is the way to go 🙂
I think page builders are great, but in my opinion, it’s worth learning about WordPress FSE because that’s the direction the ecosystem is heading. It may not be perfect at the moment, but it’s functional. Additionally, as a developer, I wouldn’t choose any of the above options, not because they’re not good, but why would I want to load extra CSS and JS for just one functionality by adding another plugin?

You can have simple scroll animations in Bricks out of the box:

You need Bricksforge if you want something more fancy (GSAP).
Bricks. Especially in your case.
You can eliminate most of the plugins, write things you need, and, as annoying as it can be sometimes, you have to put signatures on the live code so you minimize the risk at that end.
