Can a website be attacked even if with SSL present?

I’m developing a WordPress blog but Wordfence reports about 50+ attacks a day on the webpage. I’ve registered with and have purchases their SSL but it seems not to keep the attacks at bay. Is there anything else I can do to prevent these attacks?

  1. SSL has nothing to do with protecting a website.

It simple encrypts communications between a user and the server.
