Hey everyone, I am building my site locally with WordPress right now and want to purchase my domain name now and use it later once I’m ready to go live. Is this possible? I am assuming it is, but I haven’t done it this way before.
If it is possible i am debating between using Godaddy and WordPress To purchase my domain. I just want the smoothest transition. Any advice is greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance!

Since you are creating a WordPress site locally, you will be using WordPress.Org so don’t bother with WordPress.Com.
GoDaddy has an atrocious reputation and service, imho, and many people on the sub will agree with me, I believe.
Go with another domain host such as Porkbun, NameCheap, etc.
NameCheap has better hosting options, so you might want to go with it for the domain and web hosting registration. For now, register the domain and when your website is complete locally, register for web hosting and migrate the site to NameCheap.
Yes you can do that, I prefer cloudflare for my domain, GoDaddy are pretty scummy, cloudflare gives you domain protection, SSL certificates for free unline GoDaddy which prices it as domain protection etc.
Sure, you can purchase a domain without creating a site or hosting. As others have said , just make sure its not from wordpress.com. Namecheap, Hostinger, Site Ground and dozens more out there. For me, whenever i purchase a domain with no idea when or if i’m, going to create a site for it, i usually purchase from a seller that has domains and hosting accounts. Makes it easy when you do create the site.
Yes, I do this all the time. I buy domains without assigning to a host until I figure out what to do with it.
