The author will check my site and why the plugin is not working.
Can I do this or should I pay attention to something? Or you only had good experience with this process?

Purely depends on the author and if they’re reputable. Always best to create a staging site and give them access to that.
You can share the screen but not full access. That’s not safe
I work as a technical support for many plugins, and requesting for admin access is a standard procedure.
Providing access speeds up the resolution time because the support rep can check many things quickly.
That being said, you should also be careful when sharing access and only do that when necessary. You should also check the plugin developer’s reputation by checking their wordpress.org’s reviews, active plugin installation, etc.
Another precaution you can take is taking a site backup before providing access. If they mess up your site, you have a restore point.
Good luck
