I am in UK.I already have a free wordpress page and I would like to start selling my cuttings and other things related to plants. I already do it on Ebay. Is it legal to do it? Should I choose an ecommerce platform or can I do it without? Thank you
You can sell everything you want with wordpress.
It’s more about what payment gateway support.
Wordpress allows you EVERYTHING.
**Can you sell on WordPress?**
Sure.
**Should you use an e-commerce platform?**
Depends. If you want to be able to track orders, have inventory management, process lots of forms of payment — it might be worth it. If it is a fairly small operation where you are meeting up with people locally to hand off plants, you might could do with a simple order form and fulfillment in person.
**Is it legal?**
This is not a WP question other than WP is not going to stop you from selling anything. Your local jurisdiction will have a lot more to say about it. But this [Plants & Seeds – UK Policy](https://www.ebay.co.uk/help/policies/prohibited-restricted-items/plants-seeds-policy?id=4287#:~:text=Most%20plants%20and%20seeds%20can,some%20seeds%20and%20noxious%20weeds) should get you started.
I can think of one plant you’re definitely not allowed to sell in the UK. Other than that you should be ok.
You’re talking about WordPress.com, not WordPress.
If you self-host WordPress (ie host it anywhere besides WordPress.com) you can sell whatever you like, assuming it’s legal and the host and payment gateway allow it (see their terms)
Yes you’ll want to use WooCommerce if you want to sell goods like that on WordPress. It’s free, but you may need to get some paid plugins and also upgrade your hosting to a higher tier.
For most people who don’t have decent technical skills, I honestly usually recommend Shopify. You can also use “Shopify Buy Buttons” to embed Shopify products on your WordPress site. That’s what I typically recommend to my friends / clients that don’t have much technical skill.
For myself, though, I prefer WooCommerce because I find it easier to customize and set up custom stuff like follow-up funnels, upsells, etc. When you start needing Shopify “apps”, your monthly price can get very high. But when you need a lot of WP plugins, your price can get high too. So it kind of depends on what you want for your store.
I’d say Woo is definitely good to start with and see how you like it.
